Fencing in Ketton
Ketton is built of its own stone, the cream oolitic limestone quarried beside the village, and many older houses still sit under Collyweston slate. A boundary here is seen next to that stone, so the finish matters. A natural timber closeboard fence weathers in alongside it well. Where owners want composite or aluminium slatted fencing, we steer towards warmer, natural tones rather than the cool greys that suit a modern estate.
Around the historic core, the later 20th-century houses and bungalows have more ordinary boundaries, and here it is usually a question of replacing a tired panel fence with something that lasts. We build closeboard on concrete posts with gravel boards, or slatted fencing on aluminium posts, with matching gates and privacy screens. If you are unsure which finish suits your house, we can talk through the options on the visit and price both side by side, so you can decide with the stone in front of you.
What makes Ketton different
Ketton is on the Lincolnshire Limestone, which normally drains well and gives posts a good footing. The River Chater runs through the village to meet the Welland, though, and the Welland flood warning area at Ketton is the only one in Rutland. Close to the river, ground is wetter and gravel boards earn their keep. The village has a conservation area and no Article 4 direction, so the normal rules apply outside listed buildings, with the usual conservation area limits.
A typical Ketton job is a bungalow or later house on the edge of the historic core, with a panel fence on both sides of the rear garden that has reached the end of its life. We replace it with closeboard on concrete posts and gravel boards, finished in a natural tone.
