A built-in outdoor kitchen in Weldon with cabinets, worktop and space for appliances starts from about £6,000; with grill, pizza oven, sink and fridge it is typically £8,000–£20,000, and gas, power and water connections are priced on top of both. Weldon's main consideration is its quarried ground, which can change from rock to clay or fill within one garden.

Outdoor kitchens in Weldon

Weldon stone has been quarried here for centuries, and the village's historic centre is built of it. That gives two things to think about in an outdoor kitchen. Above ground, faces in natural stone tones look right next to the older houses. Below ground, the old workings mean the base has to be designed for what is really there. We dig first, then build block counters on a concrete base with weatherproof worktops and the grill, oven, sink and fridge planned in.

All prices here are guides; the fixed price comes in writing after the visit, once we have dug down to see what the old workings left behind and measured how far the gas, power and water have to run. We work across Weldon, from the stone centre to the later estates that now join it to Corby, and in Great Oakley, Little Oakley, Deene, Brigstock and Stanion, with Corby and Kettering also covered.

Weldon specifically

What makes Weldon different

Weldon sits over the limestone and ironstone that were quarried here, and ground can change from natural rock to clay or fill within a garden. A rigid kitchen across that change can crack, so the base is sized for the weakest part. The Willow Brook runs past the village, where the Environment Agency operates the Weldon flood storage reservoir, so drainage needs designing rather than assuming. Weldon's conservation area was appraised in 2009, and there is no Article 4 direction affecting this kind of work.

Behind a stone house in the old centre, a typical kitchen is a short stone-faced run with a grill and pizza oven against a garden wall. On the later estates towards Corby, rear gardens usually take an L-shaped kitchen with a sink and fridge beside the patio, in render or a buff stone face.

Permissions in Weldon

  1. PlanningAn outdoor kitchen in a rear garden does not normally need planning permission. A roof or pergola over it has to meet the outbuilding height and size limits. Gas work must be done by a Gas Safe engineer, and new outdoor circuits are notifiable electrical work. Listed buildings and the Weldon conservation area have tighter rules, so we check your address before anything is designed. Planning Portal: outbuildings
  2. TreesTrees in a conservation area need six weeks' notice before work, and protected trees need consent; both are free. North Northamptonshire: tree protection
  3. Design and priceWe measure up, check the ground and the planning position, and give you one fixed written price.

Questions

Outdoor kitchens in Weldon: questions

How much does an outdoor kitchen cost in Weldon?
A Weldon kitchen with built-in cabinets, a worktop and space for appliances starts from about £6,000, and is typically £8,000–£20,000 fully equipped with grill, pizza oven, sink and fridge. Gas, power and water connections are priced on top, measured on the visit. If the dig finds fill that needs a deeper base, that is in the fixed written price.
Do I need planning permission in Weldon?
A kitchen in the back garden does not normally need permission, though a roof or pergola has to fit the outbuilding height and size limits. Weldon's conservation area was appraised in 2009, and North Northamptonshire Council has no Article 4 direction there affecting driveways, porches or extensions.
Could old quarry workings affect my kitchen base?
They can change the ground from rock to clay or fill within a few metres. We dig to see what is there and size the base for the weakest part, so the kitchen does not settle unevenly.
Which finish suits a Weldon stone house?
Natural stone or render in warm tones usually sits best beside the older houses. We bring samples to hold against your walls, because the colour of local stone varies from house to house.
