Garden lighting in Ryhall
Ryhall, with Belmesthorpe, sits on the River Gwash just north of Stamford. Much of the housing was built by the same post-war and modern housebuilders as Stamford's estates, so many gardens share a familiar shape: a patio off the back of the house, a lawn and borders, and a fence on three sides. That makes a modest, well-planned scheme very effective. We design low-voltage lighting with step and riser lights, uplighters on trees and walls, and soft light around seating. All prices on this page are guides.
Around the green and the church the older stone cottages have smaller, more enclosed gardens where a couple of wall lights and a lit shrub go a long way. On the estates, the most useful upgrade is often lighting built into a replacement patio, with ducts laid as it is built so cables never sit under slabs. Existing gardens can be lit too, using walls and beds, without lifting any paving at all.
What makes Ryhall different
Ryhall is on the limestone, which generally drains well, but the Gwash runs through the village and ground near the river is wetter. Rutland's flood strategy names Ryhall among the places with a few properties at river flood risk, so gardens near the river get wall and spike fittings, sealed ducts and controls mounted high. Ryhall is in Rutland, not South Kesteven, so Stamford's Article 4 direction does not apply: Ryhall has a conservation area over the historic village and no Article 4 direction.
A typical Ryhall job is for an estate semi or detached house with a standard rear garden. The scheme lights the patio step, puts two or three spike lights in the borders, adds a wall light over a bench or table and uplights one tree or shrub at the back fence. Everything runs from a single transformer on a dusk timer.

Permissions in Ryhall
- PlanningGarden lighting does not need planning permission, but a new outdoor mains circuit is notifiable electrical work, so it is done and certified by a registered electrician. Keep lights pointing down and away from neighbours' windows. Listed buildings and the Ryhall conservation area have tighter rules, so we check your address before anything is designed.
